Alan Wadkins Tool Store was founded in 1958 when Alan worked as an aircraft fitter in Luton, selling tools from a wheelbarrow in his spare time. He progressed to a market stall before opening his first shop selling government surplus tools. In 1962 he moved to Darlington, and in 2009 relocated to the current Chesnut Street premises - now three times bigger and one of the largest walk-around hands-on tool stores in Northern England with onsite parking. The family business serves industrial workers, DIY enthusiasts and professionals.
