Hallmark Cards is a privately held, family-owned American company founded in 1910 by Joyce Clyde Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. Starting as a mail-order postcard company, the business operated under Hall Brothers before adopting the Hallmark brand name in 1928 – inspired by the hallmark symbol used by goldsmiths in 14th century London. The UK expansion began in 1980 with the acquisition of Scottish postcard publisher Valentine & Sons, followed by W. N. Sharpe Holdings (1984), Forever Friends (1994), and Creative Publishing (1998). Today, Hallmark is one of the world's largest manufacturers of greeting cards, helping people create meaningful connections and celebrate life's most important moments.
