GamersGate is a Sweden-based online video game store offering electronic strategy guides and games for Windows, macOS, and Linux via direct download. The idea was conceived by Paradox Interactive in 2004 after fan requests for better access to their games.
Seeking to provide cheap distribution to countries without physical retail, Paradox developed "Paradox on Demand" in April 2006, officially launching as Gamer's Gate in November 2006. After other publishers requested distribution, Paradox separated it into an independent company called GamersGate in 2008.
The platform has grown substantially, expanding from 1,000 titles in 2009 to over 6,000 by 2014. GamersGate added Mac games in 2009 and later Linux and Android games, becoming one of the earliest digital distribution sites and a competitor to Steam, GOG.com, and Direct2Drive.
