The Regency Chess Company was founded in 2008 by Julian Deverell in the historic city of Bath, UK, with a mission to source and sell only the finest quality chess sets and tabletop games. The original company had humble beginnings, operating from a bedroom in Julian's parents' house. A fateful meeting in London with Rishi Sharma, a producer of extremely fine chessmen, inspired Julian to establish the Regency Chess branding, website, and premium product range. He travelled the world to establish relationships with the very best producers of chess products. By 2010, the business had grown significantly, moving into a purpose-built warehouse and becoming the UK's largest retailer of chess sets. Today, the company operates from a warehouse in Frome, Somerset, with a dedicated team serving customers worldwide. In 2018, Regency Chess USA was established with a dedicated website for American buyers. The company has evolved into a world-leading purveyor of luxury chess and backgammon sets, as well as many other traditional and historic games, all selected for exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
