Backcountry.com is an American online specialty retailer founded in 1996 by Jim Holland and John Bresee with a $2,000 investment, selling avalanche gear from their garage in Park City, Utah. The company has grown into a leading destination for outdoor recreation gear covering hiking, camping, cycling, climbing, winter sports, fishing, and more. Now acquired by CSC Generation in 2024, Backcountry operates nine brick-and-mortar stores across the US including locations in Salt Lake City, Boulder, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Their first sale in February 1997 was a Pieps avalanche beacon.
